Our History

We are a vibrant Baptist Church in North West London, just north of the Wembley Arch. Our strength is in our diversity of cultures and our unity in God. Heaven is filled with people from different walks of life and nations of this earth, that believed and trusted in The LORD Jesus Christ for their redemption.

We thank God such diversity of people is reflected in Kingsbury Baptist Church. The church itself is located in a quiet residential area of Kingsbury including both private, council, and rented property around the church.

However, at our Sunday morning worship average attendance is between 30 – 40 plus children and young people and comprises of a diversity of ethnic origins including British, African, Caribbean, Iranian, and Malaysian.

Heavenly Diversity

Our strength is in our diversity and unity of God.

In common with all other Baptist Churches, our church is entirely self-governing. All matters concerning the life and work of the church, the pastorate and the premises is decided by a majority decision at the church meeting held 4 times a year.

Our church is financially self-supporting and is derived from the gifts of members and friends along with the substantial income from our hall lettings.

In The Beginning

Hut 1931

Kingsbury Baptist Church was formed in the 1930s at a time when the area of Kingsbury was beginning to be developed. The nearest Baptist Church at that time was West Hendon, and as the population of Kingsbury increased, several people living in Kingsbury and worshipping at West Hendon began discussing the need for a church in Kingsbury. A temporary hut was erected, making it possible to hold regular services, Sunday school and midweek meetings, until the permanent structure was built.

Foundation Stone

On Wednesday 13 May 1931, a special service was held for the foundation members of the church to dedicate themselves to work together for Christ and his kingdom in Kingsbury.

The foundation stones of the permanent church and present building were laid on 16 May 1931 (a very wet day and probably apt for Baptists) and the church building was completed and opened on 10 October 1931.

William Clark, the first minister, was, called in 1932 and served the church for seven years and the church has continued to be served by a succession of ministers, each bringing his or her gifts and abilities.

Our current minister, Reverend Jo Phillips, commenced her ministry as pastor of Kingsbury Baptist Church, in July 2016.

We now, look forward with hope and renewed optimism in our hearts, in anticipation of further wonderful works God will continue to do, amongst us, as we put all our confidence and trust in Him.

The future is bright, with The LORD Jesus Christ guiding us by His Holy Spirit and leading the way.

We give all thanks and glory to Him.

Hallelujah! Praise His excellent Name.
