Youth Ministry

Lindsay Park Baptist and Kingsbury Baptist Churches have come together to establish a youth ministry, designed to equip and enable young people to be confident in Christ, so they can circumvent the wicked exploits of the Devil and his cohorts.

Young people can also make constructive suggestions for activities that feed into the overall objectives of the youth ministry. In the past, this has led to activities such as group bowling and ice skating, and in more recent times, a barbeque and quiz night.

The leadership team of both Churches see the youth ministry as an essential element of Church life. We are committed to helping young people embark on their spiritual journey that ultimately leads to them getting to know Christ as their LORD and personal Saviour.

Supermarkets have products and services on offer they nudge you towards buying, through their carefully targeted advertisements and marketing campaigns aimed at making us all spend. Stacked high on the shelves are healthy products which, most ignore for ones that are visually tantalising and mouth-watering that delivers instant gratification.

Likewise, are hidden hostile spiritual powers that govern this world; they treat the world like one giant supermarket subtly placing all of their ungodly and wicked merchandise within reach of their many unsuspecting victims.

The Bible has identified these hostile spiritual powers collectively, as the kingdom of darkness. The ‘darkness’ denotes the complete state of ignorance. Apostle Paul attested to their existence and prevalence when speaking of his own conversion to Christ. Chief amongst what he was instructed to do was to open the spiritual eyes of people to escape that darkness, and all the trappings of Satan.

to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’ – Acts 26:18 [ESV]

The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. – 2 Corinthians 4:4 [ESV]

 

Spearheading this kingdom of darkness which seeks to plunge the world into a state of spiritual ignorance and paralysis, is Satan a.k.a the Devil, the god of this age.

The Devil and his cohorts have demonstrated over many centuries their accomplishments, in giving people that instant gratifications they crave, and in turn subjugates them to their wicked controls, which plagues them with avarice beyong their victims influence to subdue. The Bible also identifies these hidden struggles faced by people more broadly as a well-planned, concerted and strategised assault on humanity by wicked spiritual forces hostile to their very existence. Furthermore, to advance the Gospel into all corners of the word, the Bible has unmasked these evil spiritual entities so that humanity will know what they are dealing with, and a prescription on how to overcome them.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. – Ephesian 6:12 [ESV]

A Generation That Will Praise Him

These unseen hostile spiritual forces are the puppeteers, pulling the controlling strings that influence people, especially young people in directions bereft of hope and good outcomes.

It is unfortunate that many people are irresistibly drawn to the products and services of the Devil explicitly designed for their subjugation. Recreational and hard drugs, binge drinking, addiction of many description, superficiality, underage sexual contacts, premarital sexual contacts, illicit sexual behaviour, immorality, sexual grooming, violence including sexual attacks, knife and gun crimes, gangsterism including postcode senseless murders, self-indulgences and attractions to the mundane with their roots deeply embedded in the offerings of the unseen hostile spiritual forces of this world.

All these raise the question- why some young people are more prone to what the Devil has to offer than others. Perhaps you have adolescents about to fully enter their teenage years and immerse themselves in all that entails. Maybe as you survey the carnage afflicting many young people you become worried sick, that yours might be draw to the offerings of the Devil and his cohorts. By far the Devil’s biggest attraction and weapon of choice is sexual immorality and perverting the truth of God.

The Bible, the Word of God, comes to the rescue and has shown humanity the way to overcome the enterprises of Satan.

By the transformative power of the Gospel of the LORD Jesus Christ, young people can be changed for the good with mindsets, greatly enhanced and enabled to better understand, navigate and avoid altogether, the main attractions and offerings of the Devil and his cohorts.

If it sounds like we are in a battle, then it is because we are. The reason the Bible talks in plain, descriptive and alarming language in such matters, is because God cares about the souls, well-being and sanctity of everyone, including young people.  He does not want you to be in any doubt as to what you are up against. Therefore, to sugarcoat the abhorrent and aberrant nature of these highly determined hostile spiritual adversaries, serves to entrench their wickedness, in the lives of their victims. 

To fully comply with the injunction of Ephesians 6:13, it is of fundamental necessity to have a subsisting relationship with God through the LORD Jesus Christ, to be truly enabled to put on or wear His armour. His armour bestows upon us, the capacity and capability required to steadfastly resist and overcome the main attractions and offerings of the Devil and his cohorts.

Although it is still evolving, we have exciting programmes and strategies that are impactful, life-changing and most importantly, relevant to young people.

The programmes target four (4) key areas of personal growth and development, and they include:

• Fun activities and games to enhance good and healthy peer-to-peer social interactions and respect,
• Primary focus and discussions on relevant topics conducive to challenges facing young people with emphasis on a sound Biblical approach to overcoming such challenges
•  Character building and reformation which models and reflects the teachings of the Bible and the Gospel of The LORD Jesus Christ
• Mentoring with a conscientious approach toward community engagements, since we are part of that wider community within our localities

Young people are the future parents and as such it is essential to consider them as the next generation that will take on that mantle to live in ways that bring honour, respect, reverence and praise to the LORD God.
